Sauber driver Sergio Perez’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far
Sergio Perez, who was the GP2 Series driver made his debut in Formula 1 racing in 2011. Sauber-Ferrari brought him to the mainstream as a teammate of Kamui Kobayashi in the start of the year for the ongoing season’s races.
He spent a lot of time for learning the different aspects and the 2011 rules of the sport during the winter testing. After that, he participated in the season with an aim of getting better results from the early stages of his first season in Formula 1 career.
The Mexican surprised the viewers and other teams by taking only a single stop during the Australian Grand Prix, but due to some technical issues in his C30 car he was not classified on the race results sheets.
The team driver was unable to stay on the racetrack in the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix, as he retired from the race after completing 23 laps.
The youngest driver successfully finished his Chinese Grand Prix on the grid. He really worked hard throughout the race weekend and made a lot of struggle among the strong teams. After started the Grand Prix from the 12th place
on the opening grid, he came at the 17th place in the final race classifications at the Shanghai International circuit.
In the following Grand Prix, Perez tried to close his gap from the top ten teams and finished his Turkish race in the 14th spot after starting from the 15th position on the racetrack.
The Sauber driver put all of his efforts during the Spanish Grand Prix and finished his race in the top ten positions. He made good progress during the qualifying round of the Spanish race weekend and after that, he ended his race at the ninth place.
Perez was quite happy with his Spanish race results, as he scored some points for the first time in the ongoing season during that.
The 2011 Monaco Grand Prix proved unlucky for him, as he faced a high-speed accident during the qualifying round 3 at the Monte Carlo race circuit. Due to the accident he missed both Monaco and the next Canadian Grands Prix, as he was not fit enough to take
part in the races.
The 21-year-old driver rejoined the racetrack in the European Grand Prix following his recovery from the injuries that he sustained during the Monaco Q3.
He tried to recover his position at the Valencia street circuit and after struggling on the new 2011 Pirelli tyres, he finished his race in the 11th place.
Perez was not satisfied with his European race results, however he stated that the Monaco GP’s accident broke his momentum of scoring points in the ongoing season.
The team driver had a great time at the Silverstone racetrack, where he started his race from the 12th place and after putting all of his efforts during the British Grand Prix he came at the seventh position in the final
race classifications.
After scoring points for the team in Silverstone, Perez was expecting a lot from the rest of the season. He took part in the German Grand Prix with hopes of getting very close to the top-runners, but he could not do that, as the Renault driver Vitaly Petrov
was faster as compared to him during the Nurburgring race.
In the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, Perez pushed back on the midfield and ended his race at the 15th place after a fight with Force India’s Adrian Sutil in the closing laps.
