Sauber drivers Kobayashi, Perez disappointed with 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix results – Formula 1 news
Both Sauber drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez have said that they are disappointed with their 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix results, as they did not score points for the team in the race.
After a good start to the Hungarian race weekend, both of the drivers failed to show positive performances during Sunday’s race on July 31, 2011 at the Hungaroring race circuit.
Team driver Kobayashi told the media that he was good in qualifying round and even his pace at the beginning of the Budapest race was decent as well.
He also mentioned that the car was performing well in the wet but when he switched to dry tyres, the pace was not enough and he could not make a positive finish in Hungary due to that.
Talking to reporters, the Japanese said, “For a long time it looked as if I could get points today [Sunday], but then it went wrong. When the second lot of rain came the team briefly thought about calling me to the pits to pick up intermediate tyres but
I didn't want to because I found the track was improving.”
The 24-year-old driver further stated that he could have finished the Budapest race in the seventh spot if he had the right strategy.
The team driver started his race from the 13th place and ended up in the 11th spot for his team.
On the other hand, his teammate Sergio Perez mentioned that he is deeply disappointed with his 15th place finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix, as he was hoping to score decent points for Sauber at the Hungaroring race circuit.
He talked to the media and said, “I actually dropped back from 10th on the grid to 20th. At that time I was slower than the slowest cars and I hope we find the reason why this was so extreme. The drive through penalty just made matters worse later.”
After getting below par results from the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sauber are hoping for better results in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Let’s see how they perform in the next races of the ongoing season after a summer break.
