Sauber expecting better qualifying session at the upcoming British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber technical director James Key has said that they have delivered some new upgrades to their C30 car for getting better results in the upcoming British Grand Prix qualifying round.
The team director admitted that they did not have good qualifying rounds in the last couple of races. However, he said they want qualifying round boost in the upcoming race weekends of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He added, “We have some new directions to take in Silverstone although the track is very different from the last two we've been to. We'll be working closely on the tyres and on the set up of the car in order to extract its full potential on a single qualifying
lap.”
James discussed the new developments which they have made for the British Grand Prix. He added that they have brought some changes around the Blown Diffuser system and a new rear, which will be tested during the Friday Free Practice sessions at the Silverstone
race circuit.
In the recently held European Grand Prix, Sauber driver Sergio Perez did not have a good qualifying round as he started from 16th place but managed to finish his day in 11th position. His teammate Kamui Kobayashi started his race in
the 14th place, but managed to finish 16th on the race day.
The race result of Kobayashi was not impressive for the team, as they were expecting a very close finish from him in the European race weekend after his strong performance in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Apart from that, the team director said that they are hoping for good performance from both soft and hard tyres in the British Grand Prix.
He went on to mention, “We expect that the tyres will be key again this weekend. We have the soft and the hard tyre compound. We have to be careful with the hard tyre, because it does require a lot of warm up, although Silverstone should be as a circuit
better depending on ambient conditions.”
The Sauber technical director further said that the British race weekend will be very tough among the drivers, as the track has high-speed corners.
The ninth round of the season is scheduled to be held on July 10, 2011. Let’s see how the team manages their race at the Silverstone circuit.
