Sauber eye to overcome their issues by the start of 2014 – Formula 1 News
Sauber are positively looking forward to overcome their current financial issues by the start of 2014 Formula 1 season, according to a team’s spokesperson.
The team principal of Sauber, Monisha Kaltenborn, has recently stated that they are going through a very tough time at the moment. She expressed that they don’t have the required funds to make the essential developments in their
car to perform well in the season ahead. Additionally, she said that they don’t have the sponsors and required funding to carry on their development process in a proficient manner. Therefore, she emphasised that F1 should take some steps to assist the smaller
teams to uplift the morale of the sport.
Nevertheless, a spokesperson of Sauber insisted that they have been in the sport for the last two decades and will hopefully resolve their issues before the start of 2014.
“Sauber has been in Formula One for more than 20 years,” team spokesperson Hanspeter Brack told The Associated Press in an email.
“We will overcome this difficult situation, and we will be there in 2014,” he added.
Formula 1 chief executive officer, Bernie Ecclestone has asserted that he cannot bail the Swiss team out of their current financial condition as he has the responsibility to treat all the teams in the same way.
“We have agreements that require us to treat all the teams equally,” Ecclestone told SRF. “They're a good team and I'm sure there is more than one possible buyer. I don't want to imagine F1 without Sauber.”
Nevertheless, he stated that Sauber will hopefully find new sponsors who will bring them out of their poor conditions.
“Ideally, they will find new sponsors in the long term, but even companies who are willing to support them in the short term would be fine,” he said.
Presently, the Swiss squad are standing at 8th place in the constructors’ championship with 7 points. In addition, they are ahead of Williams and behind Toro Rosso. It will be interesting to see how they perform in the
approaching races and whether they will able to resolve their financial issues or not.
