Sauber face tyre degradation issue ahead of 2012 Hungarian GP – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that they are facing the issue of tyre degradation ahead of the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix and are trying to resolve it as soon as possible.
Perez showed a tremendous performance in the German GP as he secured 6th place finish after taking a start from 17th grid position. Moreover, he has performed reasonably well in the season until now as he secured two podium finishes
in the Malaysian and Canadian Grands Prix.
However, he said that they are presently facing tyre handling problem like many other contenders which may hinder their performance in the approaching races. Nevertheless, he said that they have got some ideas in their minds and are making efforts to find
the solution for the ongoing issue.
“I think now we don't have as big advantage as we had last year,” Perez said. “I think we are degrading as much as the others. I think the reason why people stopped three times in Hockenheim was to have a very strong final stint and the pit lane in Hockenheim
is short as well. I don't think we are performing a lot better than others in terms of degradation. I think we actually have a problem with degradation - we are on the high side and it's something we are working on.”
It will be important to mention that the Mexican driver has not been able to make his way into the final qualifying session since the Spanish GP because he struggled with the problem of tyre variations caused by altering weather conditions.
Additionally, he insisted that he has not been able to claim any victory in the season so far as he has been facing tyre wear out issue.
Presently, he is standing at 9th position in the drivers’ championship with 47 points. Besides, he is ahead of his teammate, Kamui Kobayashi and is behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Above and beyond, he is surely one of the most talented youngsters in the field of the current season and it will be exciting to see how he shows up in the races ahead.
