Sauber hopeful for Sergio Perez’s best run in Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 team Sauber owner Peter Sauber has expressed his positive feelings about the Turkish Grand Prix weekend.
He said that he is very hopeful for Sergio Perez’s ‘best run’ in the Turkish Grand Prix, as he is going in the right direction on the F1 grid.
He also mentioned that Perez has exceeded team’s expectations in the first three races of 2011 season, held in Australia, Malaysia and China.
He said, “We knew that in Sergio we were getting a quick, young driver. Even so, with a rookie you never have a guarantee that he will be able to call on his full potential under the pressure of a race weekend, and I had high expectations of Sergio.”
The Mexican made his debut race very successful in Melbourne where he took only a single pit stop and surprised the other teams of Formula 1, who took a lot of stops over their race. Due to having technical issues in Sauber cars, both drivers Perez and Kamui
Kobayashi were unable to be listed on the final result sheets of the race.
After their successful Australian GP weekend, the team took part in the Malaysian race with full of action and ended their race with positive results. The newly signed driver experienced an accident during his run and as a result, he was not classified on
the Sepang race sheet. Meanwhile, his teammate Kobayashi put his team on the seventh spot ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and picked up six points in the end.
Perez’s car was badly damaged due to the accident, however, the team announced before the start of Chinese Grand Prix that he will start his race with the new chassis of Sauber in Shanghai.
The Chinese GP weekend brought a lot of pleasure for the Sauber team, as its driver Kobayashi finished his run at tenth place and took one point for the team. The team was happy and as a result of its driver’s outclassed performance, they are looking forward
to a podium position in the upcoming races of this season.
Sauber said, “Kamui has developed wonderfully well as a driver over the course of the last year alone, and now he is also carrying out his new role by challenging our engineers and helping them to follow the right development path. And, of course, he continues
to give us a lot of pleasure with his outstanding overtaking moves out on the track.”
After the race, the team has praised both of its drivers’ performance and admitted that no doubt they really worked hard together over their previous races and still they are looking very motivated for the remaining races of the season.
All Formula 1 teams are moving towards Istanbul for the preparation of the Turkish Grand Prix that will take place from May 6 to 8, 2011.
