Sauber hoping for better results in 2011 Formula One season
Considering Team Sauber’s past performances, last year was quite disappointing as the team finished at 8th spot in the constructors’ standings, registering their name as the least point scoring team after Toro Rosso.
However, the team is hoping to change its fate during the 2011 season, and it seems that they are quite confident this time. The team will reveal its new car in Valencia on February 1st, at the first pre-season test session.
“Our aim in the development of the Sauber C30-Ferrari has been to build on the strengths of the C29 and to eliminate its weak points,” commented Technical Director James Key.
Key believes that the team needs to build more “predictable car” in order to ensure that they perform consistently. However, it will be a tough challenge due to the revised rules and regulations regarding car building and the new tyres by Pirelli.
“In addition, it is also important for us to go into winter testing with a car we understand, and we have worked hard on ensuring the characteristics of the car are heading in a direction we believe in,” he added.
James is of the view that some of the new rules and devices can only be tested on the track and since the teams are not allowed to experiment on the track unofficially, the teams cannot make major changes only with the help of their simulators.
Team’s Principal Peter Sauber agrees with Key’s statement that the team will have to score points consistently in order to have a good run throughout the season.
“We want to finish in the points regularly and clearly improve our position in the FIA Formula One constructors' world championship. 2010 marked the 41st year of our company history and one of the most difficult,” said a representative from Sauber.
Other than that, Sauber’s representative also stated that the team never faced technical problems in the past. However, since they have signed James Key as their Technical Director, the team is quite confident of their car’s performance and are expecting
some good results in the upcoming season.
It is hard to believe that the team will give a better performance than their 2010 run since teams like Renault, Mercedes, Force India and even Williams are trying their best to step up and score major points. Sauber, on the other hand, has not shown any
signs of “hope” or determination to outperform its rivals. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the team performs at the first pre-season test session in Valencia using their new car and later during the 2011 season.
