Sauber is surely the strongest midfield contender in 2012 Formula 1 season
Sauber-Ferrari are unquestionably the strongest midfield contender in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and have got an amazingly talented pair of drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi.
Presently, he is standing at 6th position in the constructors’ championship with 80 points. Moreover, they are ahead of their main rival, Williams and are behind Mercedes in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Perez is at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 47 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of his teammate, Kobayashi and is behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The Mexican driver has performed quite convincingly in the season until now and has scored some important points for his team. He delivered an impressive performance in the season opener and secured 8th place finish after taking a start from 22nd
grid position.
Later, he improved his qualifying pace in the second race as he secured 9th grid slot and secured an incredible second podium finish in the wet weather conditions at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso
of Ferrari who eventually took victory.
Afterwards, he struggled with his race pace and could not score even a single point in the next four races. Nevertheless, he strike back extremely well in the Canadian GP and secured an inspiring third podium finish after beginning from 15th grid
position.
Later on, he came 9th in the European GP and could not pocket any points in the British GP as he was retired. Although, he showed a reasonable pace in the German GP as he secured 6th place finish after starting from 17th
grid position but could not score any points in the Hungarian GP in which he came 14th.
On the other hand, Kobayashi secured 6th place finish in the first race after setting off from 13th grid position but failed to score points in the next three grands prix. Nonetheless, he came back really well in the Spanish GP and
secured fifth place finish after starting from 9th grid position.
Unfortunately, he again struggled in the next four races as he could only score 2 points which he secured with his 9th place finish in the Canadian GP. Even so, he made a tremendous comeback in the German GP and secured fourth place finish after
beginning from 12th grid position.
Conversely, he faced difficulties throughout the weekend of the Hungarian GP and could not score any points as he qualified for 15th grid position and came 18th in the race.
It is to be noted that the CEO of the Swiss team, Monisha Kaltenborn has recently said that they are targeting to enhance their performance in the forthcoming races. In addition, she said that they are presently looking forward to pin down their engine supplier
for 2014.
“There is nothing in place but it is a logical step for us to go and first talk to our current engine partner because we have a lot of history with them together,” Kaltenborn said. “But all is open because I don't think they themselves know much about certain
conditions. So we have to wait.”
“We were asked about a meeting [with VW] and we confirmed that the meeting took place at the Auto Salon in Geneva, but that is it. There is nothing more to say to that and we are not in any further talks,” she added.
