Sauber may lack competitiveness without Sergio Perez in 2013 – Formula 1
Sauber driver, Sergio Perez has decided to join McLaren in 2013 and it can be expected that the Swiss team may struggle in the next season without their veteran driver.
Perez signed a new multi-year deal with the Woking based team following the news of their driver, Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes in the coming year who is going to replace the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher.
Even though, the chief executive officer of Sauber, Monisha Kaltenborn showed willingness to take Schumacher in their team. However, the record championship holder decided to take retirement at the end of this year just a few days after Hamilton made the
announcement that he is going to join the Silver Arrows in the next year.
On the other hand, the Mexican driver has cherished the opportunity which he has got from the Woking based team and is positively looking forward to perform well in his career ahead. In addition, the team principal of the British squad, Martin Whitmarsh
has said that they are pleased to have the 22-year-old in their team and expressed that they are very impressed by his amazing talent and skills.
Besides, Whitmarsh said that they have full confidence in their next year’s driver line-up which includes, Perez and Jenson Button who have got the potential to win championship titles.
“In Jenson we have a real proven project, a great guy and a race winner. He is someone who a couple of races ago was utterly dominant and in Sergio we have someone who is very young, he is only 22, very raw, but a fantastic natural talent,” the Briton said.
“I've been watching him for a few years; obviously he came into Formula 1 last year, did a fastest lap in Monaco last year and had some stunning podiums this year for Sauber. Most people accept that he is the rising star of Formula 1,” he added.
Contrarily, the Hinwil based team has not decided their coming year’s driver line-up yet and are still seeking potential options for it. Though, they have wished their star driver all the best for his career ahead but with his departure, there are chances
that they may lack competitiveness in the coming season.
