Sauber optimistic problems are over – Formula 1 News
The Formula 1 team, Sauber, believes that its problems related to the rear end of the car are now over and things will now move in a positive direction in the remaining half of the 2013 season.
During the first five races of the season, the Swiss squad simply failed to deliver the expected results and their divers, Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez, kept on complaining about the rear end stability.
However, Sauber tested a new rear wing during the Spanish GP, which worked out well for the drivers and they felt a lot better on race day. They were unable to grab any points from the race but claimed
that the performance of the car was an improved one.
According to the team’s chief designer Matt Morris, things will be a lot better in Monaco, where all the teams will be focussing on traction. He was not getting carried away though and said that there is
a lot of hard work required to get solid points from both drivers.
He said, “We have closed our race pace performance to our competitors and even on qualifying performance I don't think we are so far away. But it's clearly not where we want to be and we need to work hard
and put some more performance on the car.”
Morris went onto add, “We have got a lot of stuff in the pipeline. We have more parts in design at the moment, so as soon as we can get them made we will be bringing them to the track.”
Last year, Sauber were the best amongst the midfielders and they came close to beating Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship. The team had a chance of winning the race on quite a few occasions, especially
in Malaysia where Sergio Perez almost overtook Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso for the race lead.
However, a small mistake form the Mexican driver allowed Alonso to get away towards the final few laps of the race.
This year, the C32 was handed over to a new driver pairing and the Formula 1 pundits expected some solid performances from the team, especially from Hulkenberg, who is rated as an exceptional talent. It
will be interesting to see whether the young German manages to live up to his reputation in the upcoming event.
