Sauber plans for major upgrades in Barcelona race: Formula 1 News
Sauber's team has set a plan to deliver some major updates, which includes 2011-style blown diffuser with further experimentation and new front wing, in its ‘C30’ car, at the next Barcelona race weekend, scheduled to be held on May 22, at the Circuit de
Catalunya, in Spain.
The team believes that the major changes in their car will bring the upbeat results of the race. Other than that they are hopeful, it will help the drivers to continue the fight for their regular points scoring finish.
Sauber team’s Director, James Key, said, “We'll have a new, quite significant aero package on the car, which will be a completely new front wing, updates to the front and rear brake ducts, new bodywork, new devices around the floor leading edge and under
the chassis, and we'll be testing the new exhaust system again.”
He added that other than technical work, they will also continue their work on the mechanical upgrades in their car, which they have in the recent Turkish race and it proved to be positive for the race progress. However, it will be really interesting to
see how these updates work over the next race.
He further added that their main goal is to continue their good race form in the ongoing season. The team wants to try to improve their qualifying round and also, finish as high in the supportive points as possible.
On the other hand, Sauber's driver, Sergio Perez, is hopeful that new changes will help, boost his team’s qualifying form in the up-coming race weekend.
He said, "In Turkey we weren't able to show our potential and I hope these changes in Spain and, to begin with, we are better in qualifying. We will bring an update for the car and I trust it will meet our expectations."
The team had a very disappointing start in 2011 season, as both the drivers Perez and Kamui Kobayashi were disqualified from the Australia race, due to the technical infringements in their cars.
The second race of this season was unlucky for the Mexican driver, as he experienced an accident during the Malaysian race. While, for Kobayashi the race was declared as a positive for him, as he finished his seventh fastest run with six supportive points
for the team.
The China race was much better than the previous races, as both the drivers successfully completed their run on the grid.
In the recent Turkish race, Kobayashi retained his tenth place and finished his race with single point.  Perez could not get any single point for the team and ended his race at the fourteenth place.
After four races of the season, Sauber wants to show its competitive races on the grid. It will be interesting to see how the team performs with major updates in the Spanish Grand Prix.
