Sauber present two halves sliced down F1 car – Formula 1 news
Sauber have presented a two halves sliced down F1 car from the centre line to create an exhibit of the true craftsmanship at their factory.
The car which the Swiss team demonstrated was BMW Sauber F1.08. The Hinwil based squad have attained their best result with this model back in 2008 with their then drivers, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld who secured first and second position in the Canadian
Grand Prix.
Furthermore, Sauber have secured 11 podium finishes, one pole position and two fastest laps with the displayed model of car.
Sauber have been considered as one of the most competitive midfield contenders and have performed impressively well in this season.
Their driver, Sergio Perez secured three podium finishes in this season and scored competitive points during the first few races, but he failed to attain good results after signing his multi-year deal with McLaren where he will be replacing Lewis Hamilton
from the next season onwards.
Nevertheless, the Swiss squad have signed a contract with Nico Hulkenberg who will replace Perez in the coming year.
On the other hand, the Mexican driver’s teammate, Kamui Kobayashi also performed convincingly well and secured an impressive podium finish in the Japanese GP. However, his race seat has not been confirmed for the next season and he has been replaced by Esteban
Gutierrez who showed an impressive pace in this year’s GP2 championship and secured third place finish.
The team principal of Sauber, Monisha Kaltenborn has expressed her full confidence on their next year’s driver line-up. Additionally, she has said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the coming season.
“Esteban has already been part of the team for a long time and we have followed his career very closely,” Kaltenborn said. “In 2010 we signed him up as an affiliated driver, and in 2011 and 2012 he was our test and reserve driver. We mapped out his path
to Formula One step by step. Esteban has great talent and now he's ready to take the leap. We are in no doubt we have a strong driver pairing in place for the 2013 season with Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez.”
