Sauber says team will not appeal for exclusion from Australian Grand Prix - Formula 1
Formula 1 Sauber team has recently updated the media about the fact that they will not appeal their exclusion from the Australian Grand Prix. They also mentioned that they have measured all errors committed in the Melbourne race and ensured that nothing of this kind occurs again in up-coming races.
Both drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, started their first race full of potential and successfully moved on with their F1 rivals on 27 March, at Albert Park. Due to some technical infringements in their C30 packages, they were disqualified from the race. As a result they have lost their seventh and eighth positions, at the end of the event.
Saubers’ technical director, James Key, commented, “This is a very surprising and disappointing result. It appears that there is a question over the top surface of the uppermost rear wing element, this area is not the working surface of the component and therefore relatively unimportant to its function.”
Dealing with the tyres, the team used a soft tyre set in the first two stints while in the third stint they continued they race with the hard compound of Pirelli rubber. Sauber driver Perez took only one pit stop over the race, so it was very surprising for the other teams, who took two or three stops over their race. The Mexican driver admitted that it was an unforgettable race for him because he managed support points for the team in his debut race.
On the other hand, Peter Sauber, the team boss, added, "Both Sergio and Kamui put in a tremendous performance on Sunday. They gained no advantage from the inaccurate rear wing.”
He went on to say that both drivers fought really hard to secure their best finishing places. Despite the disappointing decision of their exclusion from the Melbourne race, the team found their car a fast one. Peter admitted, no doubt the team has two very talented and competitive drivers this year, moreover their performances over the race make him optimistic for the 2011 season.
The Sauber team is looking forward to a successful result in the upcoming season and hopefully this set back will not hurt their momentum.
