Sauber target fifth position in 2012 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship – Formula 1news
Sauber chief executive officer, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they are targeting to secure fifth position in the 2012 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship.
At present, Swiss team is standing at sixth place in the constructors’ standings with 100 points. Moreover, they are ahead of their main rival, Force India and are behind Mercedes.
The Hinwil based team has performed quite convincingly in the season so far and has been deemed as the most competent midfield contender. However, they are not contended with their current position and are aiming to fight for fifth place finish in this year’s
championship.
Furthermore, their driver, Sergio Perez’s incredible second podium finish in the Italian GP has increased their confidence and they are pushing harder to close the gap to the Brackley based team in the remaining season.
When Kaltenborn was asked about their future goals, she said that as they have made some credible progress in the season so far, therefore, they are confident that they can make further advancement in the upcoming season and can achieve more.
“After our strong start to the season, many people were predicting that the wheels would come off for us, so to speak, as the season progressed,” said Kaltenborn. “The reality, though, is we're getting stronger all the time, and I'm anticipating that we'll
continue to deliver good performances through the final third of the season.”
In addition, she said that during the last year, they came 7th in the rankings and considering their competitive form in this season, they will certainly look forward to fight for 5th place in the standings. Above and beyond, she said
that she has full faith in her team and they have got the potential to attain their desired results in the forthcoming races.
“Taking our seventh place in the constructors' standings in 2011 as a starting point, that would mean finishing fifth this year. That's an ambitious target, but you have to set your sights high. And I have every confidence in our team,” she added.
It will be quite stimulating to see how Perez and his teammate, Kamui Kobayashi perform in the approaching races.
