Sauber targeting good qualifying round in 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber are targeting a good qualifying round in the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
After a positive start in the 2011 Formula 1 season, Sauber have been unable to do well in the past few races.
Pirelli confirmed that the sets of soft and supersoft tyres will be used for the 2011 Singapore race. However, Sauber are confident to be back on the grid in Singapore following their unsatisfactory results in the last couple of races.
The Hinwil-based outfit’s technical director James Key talked to the media and said that they are hopeful of getting back in the points at Marina Bay Street Circuit next weekend. He believes both of their drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi will perform
well on the grid in Singapore after their disappointing results in the Monza race.
Key commented, “We'll be looking closely at the balance of the car and its ability to absorb the kerbs and the bumps. We tested some new engine maps in Monza for the first time, and we will develop these further in Singapore. Even with DRS, overtaking will
be difficult on this track, so qualifying positions and strategy are going to be important.”
On the other hand, the team driver Perez is confident for the 14th round of the ongoing season. He mentioned that Singapore circuit could prove good for them and they can score decent points during the race as well.
The Mexican’s teammate Kobayashi is looking forward to a successful race weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. He added that he really wants good results from the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix.
Kobayashi stated, “All in all I'm confident for the weekend, and I really want to achieve a good result because it is the last race before my home grand prix in Suzuka and good results always give you extra motivation and make you stronger.”
Both of the drivers retired from the Monza race due to having a gearbox issue in their C30 cars.
Let’s see how Perez and Kobayashi perform in Singapore this weekend following the disappointing Italian race weekend.
