Sauber to bring upgrades before Spanish Grand Prix – Peter Sauber
According to Team Sauber’s boss, Peter Sauber, the team is hoping to improve its new car after coming up with some upgrades but not before the Spanish Grand Prix.
The team gave a good performance at the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season, which took place in Australia, as both of the team’s drivers, Kamui Kobayashi, and, Sergio Perez, qualified until the final session of the qualifying round Q3, which
means that he was one of the 10 fastest drivers on the grid for that race.
As a result, the team scored a double points’ finish but the FIA revealed that the team infringed the FIA’s rules, as their rear wings were not according to the specified measurements mentioned in the sport’s rules and regulations.
Therefore, the team was penalized because of which, the team did not score any points for the season opener.
“We knew that in Sergio we were getting a quick, young driver. Even so, with a rookie you never have a guarantee that he will be able to call on his full potential under the pressure of a race weekend. I had high expectations of Sergio, and I have to say
that so far he has actually exceeded these”, the team boss stated.
Besides that, the Chinese Grand Prix was the first race weekend in 2011, in which Kamui Kobayashi did not qualify in the top 10, since the beginning of the season. Because of these overwhelming results, Sauber stated that the team needs to keep moving forward
and come up with some more upgrades in the near future.
“This season we wanted to have a car that would be both competitive and reliable from the outset - and we have clearly achieved this initial aim. If it hadn't been for the oversight with the rear wings in Melbourne, our points total would be excellent, as
it is, seven points is still okay”, said Peter.
He added that it is important for the team that they have been able to compete for championship points at each race on merit.
Other than that, he believes that the competition is getting tougher as well with each race and at the Chinese Grand Prix, most of the teams were going even faster than before since they applied some new upgrades to their respective cars.
Since most of the teams have announced that they will come up with some more improvements for their respective cars before the Turkish Grand Prix, it is believed that the order of the grid can shake up once again in Istanbul.
