Sauber chief executive, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they are unsure about which engine to use for 2014 Formula 1 season.
Kaltenborn said that they have not made any decision regarding which engine they will use in 2014. However, she said that at first they will surely go to Ferrari who have been their partner for a long time.
“It is obvious that we will go first to our current engine partner, because we have a long shared history,” chief executive Monisha Kaltenborn told motorsport-total.com.
Furthermore, she said that they have kept their options open and will definitely search for better opportunities in the future concerning their choice about the car’s engine.
“But it’s all open, because I think they themselves (Ferrari) also do not know much more than us about certain conditions,” she said.
In addition, she said that due to the new regulations by FIA regarding the engine, there will be an obvious increase in the costs of renting. She added that the monetary aspect will play a crucial role in making the necessary decision.
“We have made it clear that financial aspect is very important for us,” she said.
Besides, she insisted that they certainly don’t want to pay high amounts for engine like they used to give in the past.
“We do not want to go back to days when you had to pay so much more money for engines,” she added.
Over and above, she said that there is nothing else to say except that their team boss, Peter Sauber has recently met with the VW chairman, Martin Winterkorn at Geneva motor show.
“That’s all there is, there’s no more to say about it,” Kaltenborn insisted. “We are not in further talks.”
The Swiss team is undoubtedly the strongest contender in the midfield. They are presently standing at 6th position in the constructors’ championship with 80 points. Additionally, they are ahead of their major rival, Williams and are behind Mercedes.
