Sauber unveils its C30 at Valencia
Sauber has become the second team in Formula One to reveal its 2011 package on Monday. The team held the opening ceremony of its car recently at the Valencia track.
The new, dainty team car will ramp at the tracks of 2011 season under the title of C30. To mark the event, the Team Owner Peter Sauber, team drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez and important team officials were present. The team’s new car was unveiled
amidst flooding camera lights and inquisitive reporters from all around the globe.
Today, the team car was only displayed for public view, and it will hit the track for the first time in 24 hours’ time. The first pre-season test is scheduled to begin on February 1st, 2011, stretching to a period of three days.
The Hinwil, Switzerland based team believes that the new car will be far better than the last season’s car, and will let its’ drivers perform far better too. Sauber believes that the Ferrari-powered 2011 car will definitely have a speed boost this season,
making it far more competitive on the grids. The car’s outward look and livery is quite similar to last season’s model with major portions of white and grey colours. However, some advertisement is painted on the car for this year, owing to the new sponsors
brought in by the Mexican driver, Perez.
While addressing team fans this morning, the Team Boss Peter Sauber said, "We have managed to secure our business foundation for the 2011 season. In these economically straitened times that is something we can be proud of."
Sauber wrapped up the 2010 season poorly at 8th place in the constructors’ charts with a meagre total of 44 points. The team ran three drivers last season with Pedro de la Rosa and Kamui Kobayashi as the opening drivers, while Nick Heidfeld took
the cockpit during the latter half of the season.
After an abortive 2010 season, the team hopes to run a smoother season ahead. With the arrival of new sponsors, Sauber is looking forward to provide better facilities and assistance to its drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez.
The 2011 calendar marks the first ever season of Perez in the team. The 21-year-old has previously taken part in various racing series around the globe and has extensive experience of auto racing. However, it is largely believed that a strong government
backing and heavy sponsorship helped him earn a seat in Formula 1 instead of his diverse experience in the sport.
