Sauber’s James Key: We want to score points in 2011 Brazil Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s technical director James Key has said that they want to score points in the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held on November 27, 2011 at the Sao Paulo circuit.
Key added that the Brazilian race will be the last round of the 2011 Formula 1 season, so they want to extract the most out of that race keeping in view their Championship position in the end of the season.
The Hinwil-based outfit technical director also mentioned that they have already reached the end of the ongoing season and that it is gone very quickly, but equally it has been a lot of hard work for everyone in the team so far.
He talked about the Brazil racetrack and stated that Sao Paulo is one of those circuits that do not have an evident optimum wing level.
Talking to reporters, Key commented, “There are two strategies, one which is a higher downforce setting where the middle of the lap is better optimised, and the other one is a lower downforce setting which is better for the long straight up the hill through
to turn one and then the second straight down to turn four. That will cause a little bit of work on the wing level, both from a strategic and also the lap time point of view.”
On the other hand, Pirelli confirmed that the sets of medium and soft compounds will be taken for the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix, the same the teams had in the 2011 Abu Dhabi race weekend. However, Key added that they think the nature of the Sao Paulo racetrack
will allow them to get a little bit more out of Pirelli tyres over a single lap of the race this weekend.
The team were unable to get the new tyres to work in the qualifying round of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but Key believes the nature of the circuit in Brazil can allow the team Sauber to use the sets of medium and soft compounds better.
He assured that both the team drivers Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi can realise the full potential of C30 cars in the race this weekend.
Sauber are sitting at the seventh position with 42 points in standings at the moment.
Let’s see how both of the drivers perform at the Sao Paulo racetrack this weekend in their C30 cars.
