Sauber’s Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi apologises to fans at Suzuka – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi has apologised to his home fans at the Suzuka circuit for finishing in a disappointing 13th place at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Japanese star driver had huge support at Suzuka because of his 2010 heroics when he finished with a career best seventh place. The hopes were given a major boost when he recorded a career best seventh on the grid for the 2011 event on Saturday. That
was the only highlight of the weekend because Kobayashi’s race went haywire from the start when his car’s anti-stall system came into effect and he lagged behind.
From there on, it became more and more difficult for him to climb back into the race and he finished in a disappointing 13th place in front of his fans.
While talking about his race, he said, “It was a tricky day for me, unfortunately the safety car timing was so bad for us. I had a bad start as well and for us it was not our day. Everything had been going really well yesterday was quite okay, but sometimes
you need luck.”
Kobayashi said his car’s anti-stall issue was quite a surprise for him. He said he did not expect the car to behave the way it did, and it affected his race considerably. He mentioned that it is something the team will definitely look into, so it never happens
again.
He was all-praise for the love of the Japanese fans, mentioning their support at a time when he has not been performing really well. He said he wanted to give them a better result in order to give them something to cheer about, especially after the disaster
which struck the country earlier in 2011.
The proud Japanese said he will work harder to perform in the upcoming races and try to do much better. Let’s see how he fares in the last 4 races of the season.
