Sauber’s Sergio Perez: I am very happy with 11th position in qualifying – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that he is very happy with his 11th position in the qualifying round of the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held on Saturday, November 12 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Perez did the fastest lap in Q2 with the sets of soft tyres by Pirelli, but failed to finish his run in the top ten positions in Q3, as his rivals were faster as compared to him.
The Mexican talked to the media and added that every member of his team did a good job throughout the Qualifiers.
After qualifying in the 11th place for the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the 21-year-old driver stated that he is hopeful of having good results at the end of the raceday.
Talking to reporters, the youngest F1 driver commented, “We are in a challenging situation regarding the battle for positions in the Constructors' Championship, but I hope for a good race with an aggressive strategy tomorrow. It will be my first twilight
race, but I have seen yesterday and today that the tinted tear off visors work quite well.”
On the other hand, his teammate Kamui Kobayashi stated that eventually he did his fastest lap time in Q2 on the set of soft tyres, which he had used before in Q1. He added that his fastest lap in Q2 was not perfect, but he put his hopes on the set of new
tyres.
The Hinwil-based outfit driver qualified in 16th position for the raceday after running in his C30 car in Q1 and Q2.
The Japanese mentioned, “Then we struggled a lot to get the fresh ones up to temperature and that's why I couldn't improve. The difference in grip between the used set and the new one was really big.”
He went on to say that he has a very good feelings for the 2011 Abu Grand Prix at the moment.
The Swiss squad is at the seventh position behind the Force India team with 41 points in the constructors’ championship after 17 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
