Sauber’s Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi have mixed feelings ahead of 2011 Formula 1 season
Sauber’s Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, have different feelings going into the 2011 Formula 1 season. Perez, who will be making his debut, commented that Melbourne will be a dream come true and he is pretty much looking for a great start to his career.
While, Kobayashi feels that his concentration is shattered by the devastating earthquake in his home town, Japan.
Perez said, “I have dreamed for many years of competing in my first Formula 1 grand prix and now it is going to happen.” He did show concern over the Japanese people, but was overall happy about his personnel achievement of becoming a Formula 1 driver. He
further added that he has never been to Australia before, but he does know the track there and is waiting to get in the car.
On the other hand his team-mate, Kobayashi is in sorrow from the recent earthquake and tsunami that has struck his country a week ago. Kobayashi took the first flight to Japan after the Barcelona test to share the pain of loved ones lost in the horrific
earthquake. He said, “I must say the situation is really, really bad. So many have lost their lives, become homeless, are without food and water in the cold winter.”
Kobayashi further said that he wants to help the people in Japan and the best way to do that is to win some Grand Prix to give the people some joy. It is also reported that both drivers will have a message on the car which will read, ‘may our prayers reach
the people in Japan’.
Sauber team principal, Peter Sauber, also gave a message to the Japanese people offering his sympathy and wishing them well through this tragic time. Several thousands have been reported dead and many more missing in the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit
the eastern lands of Japan.
The 2011 Formula 1 season starts in Melbourne in less than two weeks and it is expected that a lot more support for the Japanese people and for Kobayashi will come from all the fans and followers of the sport.
