Sauber’s Sergio Perez chances for Valencia GP dependent on first practice session – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez is still showing concern over his return to the grid in the Valencia Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Perez confirmed that his inclusion in the Valencia Grand Prix will depend on his fitness and performance in the free practice session on Friday, June 24, 2011.
Perez, who has missed out on the previous two races of the season due to an injury he sustained in the qualifiers of Monaco, stated that although he is perfectly feeling fine, he will still need to perform in the practice session to prove his point.
“If I feel 100 percent fine I will be back in the car but if I feel dizzy I will not drive. I was in the simulator two days ago and I was doing perfectly fine. Of course, everything changes when you're in the car but I'm quite positive than everything will
be OK. I'm more motivated than ever,” added Perez.
Perez crashed heavily in the Monaco qualifiers when he lost control of his C30 coming out of the famous tunnel. The Mexican crashed in the padding and was taken to the hospital after the incident. Although it was first believed that his injuries were severe
but the Mexican recovered from the crash and did take part in the Montreal practice sessions.
However, after suffering from pain, the Sauber team decided to rest him and brought Pedro de la Rosa in to drive the C30.
Talking about his rehabilitation, Perez stated, “I have done a lot of regeneration training to get back to a good level because after a few days in hospital you lose quite a lot of power, strength and condition. [The doctors] always thought we were a bit
too optimistic to go back after the accident.”
The Sauber team had already stated that Rosa is on standby if Perez was not hundred percent in the practice session.
Nevertheless, the Mexican has had almost one month to recover and it will be interesting to see how he performs on Friday.
