Sauber’s Sergio Perez hoping to score some points at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix
Sauber’s Sergio Perez has recently stated that he is hoping to score points for his team at the next Turkish Grand Prix, which would be the first points of the rookie’s career.
Sergio joined Formula 1 this year and he has been giving some impressive performances ever since. Despite the fact that he has been unable to score a single point up until now, he has proved that he has the potential to push himself and his car to the limit
when he employed a one pit strategy at the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in Australia.
“In a way I feel for me the championship is about to start now with these next races on circuits I know. I have raced at Istanbul Park twice in the GP2 series and I find the track very nice. I especially used to enjoy turn eight a lot,” said Perez.
Perez is the only driver to do so as a result of which he finished in seventh place but unfortunately, both of the Sauber drivers got disqualified fromthe race for infringements of the FIA’s rules regarding the measurements of the rear wing.
Ont he other hand, his team-mate, Kamui Kobayashi, has been scoring points consistently but the young rookie is yet to score his first Formula 1 points. However, Sergio believes that he has the potential to compete alongside his team-mate and is looking
to prove himself in terms of statistics as well at the Turkish Grand Prix.
“With the Formula One car it will, of course, be physically demanding for the neck muscles, and turn eight will also be a special challenge for the front tyres. We will have to be careful with them. In any case I'm really looking forward to the Turkish Grand
Prix and I want to bag my first points,” stated the young rookie.
Kamui Kobayashi believes that the tyres are going to play a major role at the upcoming race because the Istanbul International circuit is going to be a real test for the new Pirelli tyres. He added that since the track has some high speed corners, he feels
that the Turkey race is going to be quite competitive and claims that it is going to be difficult to predict the results of the race since the tyres can prove to be a big surprise for most of the teams in terms of reliability and durability.
The Turkish Grand Prix is expected to take place next week, with the championship heating up with McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team on top of the standings.
