Sauber’s Sergio Perez needs some time to understand Formula 1
Sauber’s new driver Sergio Perez has been struggling to perform up to his team’s expectations and he admits that he needs to “struggle” in order to understand Formula 1 and perform at his best.
Most of the new young drivers have been finding it very difficult to “get a grip” of a Formula 1 car since they don’t get much time to practice or test their cars at all before the season begins. Sergio has a limited time of testing during the pre-season
test sessions that take place only for a month before the season and since Pirelli is going to be the new tyre supplying company for the sport, most of the drivers are going to find it very difficult to get used to the grip level of the new tyres.
“I hope so. I think it's quite a struggle obviously but I'm working and I'm doing my best and I hope that by the start of the season I can be up to speed with them,” said Sergio.
His team-mate Kamui Kobayashi, on the other, hand became a part of Team Sauber just last year and proved that he has the ability to score good points consistently even if the team does not provide him with the best car.
“I think I have a lot to learn from him, because one year in Formula One can make a big difference. I find that I can learn a lot from Kamui,” Perez added.
Kobayashi was very aggressive in 2010 and it seemed that overtaking him at any track in any situation was never easy. He finished in 12th place in the drivers’ standings with 32 points.
It seems that Sergio is pretty much impressed by the overtaking maneuvers Kamui performs and as a result, he is a great inspiration for Sergio.
“I hope so because I know he is very good at overtaking and I think that I can match him yes. If I have the chance I will go for it definitely. I'm here to get as many points as possible, so I will do my best inside the cockpit at every single race,” stated
Sergio.
Formula 1 is growing and becoming even better technologically day after day and it seems that Sergio wants to move on from GP2 and try his best to give the best possible results, otherwise, it would be very difficult for him to impress the teams and fans
later on.
