Sauber’s Sergio Perez to start Chinese Grand Prix with new chassis - Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Sauber driver Sergio Perez will start the Chinese Grand Prix with the brand new C30 chassis, as his original car was badly damaged in Malaysia race.
The team manager Beat Zehnder told the media about the heavily damaged condition of Sauber’s original machine. He said, "The chassis looks pretty bad. So far we've only been unable to repair one chassis; it was Frenzten's after he crashed in Monaco in 1994!
We have informed the FIA. Now there's a hole in the chassis. For China, Sergio will have a new one."
He further added, the new chassis seems very mild on the tyres and the team is sure that it will bring many positive results in the up-coming races of the 2011 season.
The Mexican driver Perez made his successful debut race for Sauber in Australia. He put a big surprise ahead of the other Formula 1 members, by taking only a single pit stop over the race. He finished his best outing with his team-mate Kamui Kobayashi, but
during the last laps of the race, they were disqualified from the course, due to having some technical-based issues in their cars. The team did not appeal for their exclusion from the race and have measured all those errors for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The team was very motivated for the Sepang race, as they made a strong start in the 2011 season. However, they participated in the Malaysian race and completed their free practice and qualifying session successfully among their stronger rivals.
Due to having an accident, Perez was again not classified on the Malaysian race sheet and as a result, he was retired from the race. However, his team-mate Kobayashi finished in the seventh spot ahead of Hamilton and got six supportive points for his team.
After the two races of this season, Perez shared his feelings for Ferrari and said that he is aiming to be ready for his future with the scarlet team of Formula 1.
He added, "If I was to say no I would be lying. For sure it's a dream for me to drive for them one day. I think it's too early to say. I think there's a long way to go for me, lots to learn and a lot of work ahead of me. I hope I can be ready for something
like this by the end of this year."
The Chinese Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on 17 April at the Shanghai circuit.
