Saudi religious police...?

i want answers from saudis please! what positive contribution does mutawa have in your society? personally i only see the negative side of them

there are many good things like fighting pornography and stopping drugs ...

but as a bad things most of them are formal criminals who were released. they are responsible for the killing of many Innocent school girls.

in Islam the religious police are needed but not in the way we see these days, in Islam religious police are meant to be a peaceful tool and to encourage people to do good things.

well for one thing, im 30years old.. Im a moderate modern thinking muslim woman, raised in the west... I love good moral values, but I am not a fanatical prude..

I personally in my whole life have never encountered any mutawa.. EVER..

So they really dont have any effect on me...

Ive seen them walking the malls accompanied by a police escort.. Ive seen them talking to young men, but ive never witnessed any agression by them...

That's because there's no other side. There isn't a single thing that is positive about them!!..I think they're just there as a reminder to people that this is NOT a free country. And by freedom, I don't mean to able to wear whatever we like or eat with who ever we want (since you can't be seen in public with a guy unless you two were somehow related!!!!).  But they think if they take that kind freedom, it will make us susceptible to losing our other (and more important rights). I personally think the whole religious police thing a conspiracy to make it easier to control and brain wash the citizens!.

and to the girl/ guy who said that he/she has never been treated badly by them, heres a story.

I was once walking out of college and about to get into the car , which of course is NOT driven by moi but by a chauffeur. (and NO I'm not rich, but you have to get one if you're a girl living in saudi). Anyways, as I was getting into the car, this mutawa guy spotted me and noticed that I didn't have my face covered. So of course he stopped me in the most frightenig way you can imagine and asked the never ending question "why are you not covering your face?".  I said I don't have to, our religion never said that we have to cover our faces!!!!, but for some reason he believes that we have to.

I got into the car while he was standing right infront of me still arguing about this stupid thing. Then I told the chauffeur to just ignore and drive away. So he did. We drove away  thinking that the probleam has been resolved and that I'll never see the face of that creep again!. But it appeared that my thoughts had deceived me and that the A** hole got into his car, followed us,  and some how trapped us by his car. So now we were trapped and there was no way we could've driven away this time. Then he got out of his car and came to ours. He started interrogating me like I was some kind of felon!!!. All because I drove away and didn't liisten to what he had to say!!. He then wanted to take our poor chauffeur with him and question him privately. I was like " heeeyy What did he do?. I'm the one who committed the crime of not covering my face, remember?!!" but of course the creep couldn't care less and still insisted on interrogating him!. We argued and argued for about an hour, right there in the middle of the street where they ( the mutawa and his crew) blocked us. Then, OUT OF NO WHERE he said that he would let me go if I gave him my I.d!! That weird creep!!..

so in summary, These people have absolutley no good side!!.

and I do agree with whoever said that they were ugly looking!!!... d**n!!! these dudes wouldn't look good if they had a Gazillion plastic surgeries done!!..I wonder how they deal with the horror every morning when they look in the mirror.. HAHA if they have one that is..

First of all Mutawa means a religious man in laymens terms, it doesnt mean the Committee to Promote Virtue and Prevent Vice.

They have a huge contribution. All some here is bad things in an attempt to demonize them.

Yes they have bad things just like the municipality does.. or any other government agency. People act like it were just them.

That said, to be just and fair, we must admit that statistics show that they are extremly productive, especially when you see how little their budget is compared to the police for instance.

Huge number of prostitution incidents ( basically selling human beings in an organized manner ), drug dealing crimes, car theft etc and many other crimes are caught by them... and I mean at least 7x more productive than others despite the relatively low budget/funding they work with.

Imagine if they were funded even more by the government....

Yes they have many issues just like other government agencies like the municipality, immigration, and even the ministry of labor.... its endless... so the problem is one of management, not a problem of its very existance!
