Sauerland Promotions confirms Marco Huck-Denis Lebedev for December 18
December 18 will mark a monumental title fight between the A-list German celebrity Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KOs) and highly-acclaimed prospect Denis Lebedev (21-0, 16 KOs), Sauerland Promotions confirms.
Huck will be defending his WBO cruiserweight title for the fifth time when he steps into the ring with Lebedev, his most formidable opponent to date. The fight will take place in Berlin at the Max-Schmeling-Halle Arena, and is expected to attract thousands.
“I look forward to fighting in Berlin again,” Huck said recently. “Lebedev is a tough challenger with a great record. We are both very powerful and have tremendous KO power so the fans can expect a big battle. I will of course defend my title and leave
the ring as the winner.”
Huck’s trainer Ulli Wegner seconded the words: “Lebedev is a very strong challenger. After Ramirez and Afolabi, this is once again a huge test for Marco. But I am sure he will take care of business.”
Huck, 25, won the cruiserweight title in August 2009 when he toppled Victor Emilio Ramirez in a unanimous decision. Since then he has taken out Ola Afolabi, Adam Richards, Brian Mino and Matt Godfrey.
Aside from a prestigious boxing career, Huck is a massive star in Germany, known for his out-of-the-ring charisma and handsome good looks. He is currently dating playboy model Jenifer Henschel.
In Lebedev he will find a game opponent who, despite being relatively inexperienced, destroyed up-and-comer Alexander Alexeev and stopped former WBO titleholder Enzo Maccarinelli in three rounds. Lebedev is regarded as an absolute knock-out artist and is
already being praised by those in the highest echelons of professional boxing.
It would not be too much to say Germany hasn’t seen a fight of this calibre for some time, at least with two opponents who are equally adored and respected for the talents in the ring.
