Saul Alvarez: I want to be the first ever Mexican to collect a win over Shane Mosley – Boxing News
Saul Alvarez, the current WBC light middleweight champion, recently shared his views about his upcoming opponent, Shane Mosley, and said that he is preparing hard to take on the veteran as he is a tough pugilist who though is 40-years-old yet brawls like
a 25-year-old adding that he wants to be the first Mexican to nail the former welterweight champion.
Saul and Shane are scheduled to take on each other on May 5, 2012 and will co-headline the pay-per-view promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. This will be Saul’s fourth WBC title-defence bout for which he is undergoing a strenuous training
camp at Big Bear in California.
The epic Saturday night special edition will be headlined by the much anticipated clash between Floyd Mayweather Junior and Miguel Cotto. Saul, 21, currently ranks at world number two spot and boasts an emphatic resume.
The young Mexican lad has been in a total 40 bouts and never lost even a single one. He has collected a huge 29 of his total 39 wins by knockout. The orthodox pugilist grabbed the WBC gold after collecting a unanimous decision over Matthew Hatton.
His opponent for the Saturday night showdown is a highly experienced pugilist who has proudly held several titles round his waist and has fought ace men in the division. He has been in a total 55 bouts and emerged victorious in 46. He has nailed 39 men by
knockout and is currently going through a bad phase of his career.
The 40-year-old will return after a lapse of one-year and last fought against Manny Pacquiao to collect a unanimous decision loss. Saul recently shared his thoughts about his upcoming bout and sounded pretty confident and optimistic.
When asked as to how he feels at the moment, Saul commented, “I feel great. We are working very hard, and I am ready. My weight is good, my sparring partners are great fast, intelligent. I had to adjust at first. They helped me out a lot.”
Alvarez, also known as the ‘Canelo’ or ‘Cinnamon’, while sharing his thoughts about Shane, remarked, “Mosley is a complete fighter. He is a 40-year-old that fights like a 25-year-old. He will bring out the best in me, but I will be the first Mexican to defeat
Mosley. I dedicate this fight to all Mexican fight fans.”
The confident Saul predicted that he will put up a great show and said, “On May 5th, you will see a great fight. You will see the best of me. It will be a tough fight but we are preparing for the best Mosley. We are ready.”
Saul and Shane both are top-notch pugilists and their presence in the ring against each other for 12-rounds is conformity of the fact that the bout will be a classic one and at the moment nothing can be predicted as to who has the odds in his favour and
who will be the underdog.
