Saul Alvarez: I will not underestimate Shane Mosley – Boxing news
Saul Alvarez, the current WBC light middleweight champion, recently put forth his thoughts about Shane Mosley, his upcoming opponent, and said that he will not underestimate the veteran Mosley at any cost adding that he just wants to outwit Shane to collect
a unanimous win rather than a knockout one.
Saul and Shane will co-headline the pay-per-view promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the ring for the bout will be stretched at MGM Grand situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Alvarez, 21, will defend his WBC gold for the fourth consecutive time but this time against a heavily experienced pugilist who has proudly held several welterweight and light middleweight titles in his illustrious career.
Saul, also known as the ‘Cinnamon’ or ‘Canelo’, has been in a total 40 bouts and boasts an undefeated resume with 39 wins. He has collected just one draw decision in his career against Jorge Juarez. Since then the world number two light middleweight has
been on a continuous win streak.
In addition, the Mexican orthodox has nailed 29 of his opponents by knockout and recently collected wins over many big names. The young lad grabbed his WBC middleweight gold after collecting a unanimous decision in his favour against Matthew Hatton.
Since then he has successfully defended it against Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, and Kermit Cintron. His Saturday night opponent, Shane, currently resides at the seventh spot in world welterweight rankings and will enter his career’s 56th bout.
Mosley, 40, has collected 46 wins and 39 of them via knockout. Though he has tarnished his resume with seven losses yet he is not an opponent who can easily be ‘overseen’ or ‘underestimated’.
Also known as the ‘Sugar’, Mosley recently took on Manny Pacquiao and won a standing ovation from the whole crowd despite losing the bout. Since then the veteran American has not returned to the ring.
In a recent press conference, Shane who has collected two wins, two losses, and one draw in his last five bouts, said, “It’s about pride. All of the victories were in the past. This is a young champion I’m fighting. He has a belt that I want. I want to win
the fight and go on to bigger and better things. I see myself not as an old warrior but a young killer. I don’t buy into the 40-year-old thing.”
Saul, on the other hand, shared his strategy and said, “Many people say I’m the favorite but I can’t underestimate a fighter like him. I’m going to be very weary and smart in the fight. My mentality is to go in there, perform and win but not look for the
knockout.”
The pay-per-view will be headlined by Floyd Mayweather Junior-Miguel Cotto bout and will be televised on May 5, 2012.
