Saul Alvarez makes weight training strenuously for bout with Shane Mosley – Boxing News
Saul Alvarez, the incumbent WBC light middleweight champion, who is scheduled to defend his gold against the WBA super world welterweight champion Shane Mosley, recently fulfilled the mandatory WBC weigh-in criteria and successfully achieved the within limits
165.5-pound weight.
As per the tidings, Saul, who is currently undergoing a strenuous sparring and training session in the mountains of Big Bear situated in California, was called on by the WBC authorities to make weight in accordance with the rules and regulations of the authority.
As per the rules mentioned, each and every pugilist has to undergo a weigh-in almost 30 days prior to the bout. For a light middleweight brawler, the maximum weight limit is 169.4 pounds inclusive of the 10% leverage allowed by WBC.
Saul successfully showed 165.5 in the weigh scale and is now perfectly eligible to brawl Shane Mosley in the undercard of May 5, 2012, a huge fight card which will be headlined by the epic clash between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto.
Alvarez proudly resides at world number two rank and has an impressive rather intimidating resume that boasts an undefeated win streak and a huge 39 wins in total 40 skirmishes.
He has collected just one draw decision in his whole career against Jorge Juarez and has put forth the boxing fanatics some memorable and prolific bouts. The 21-year-old Mexican, also known as the ‘Canelo’ or ‘Cinnamon’, grabbed the WBC light middleweight
gold after nailing Matthew Hatton and since then has successfully defended it against Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, and Kermit Cintron.
He is also the former WBC Silver light middleweight champion and engraved his name over the prestigious gold after knocking out Luciano Leonel Cuello in just the sixth round. Later on, the surging young brawler defended it against Carlos Manuel Baldomir
and Lovemore Ndou eventually vacating it to compete for the WBC apex divisional gold.
The WBC representative involved in the weigh-in event, explained in brief as to why the WBC has initiated such rule and said, “This rule of the weighing in at 30 days prior to the fight, allows fighters to monitor their weight to become well-hydrated and
that way avoid risks to their health and life.”
Saul will strive hard to defend his gold against the veteran Shane Mosley and if he wins the bout he will move forward to take on James Kirkland otherwise on September 15, 2012 he will get a rematch against Shane.
