Saul Alvarez most probably to take on James Kirkland in upcoming engagement – Boxing News
Saul Alvarez, the current WBC light middleweight champion, will most probably take on James Kirkland, the current WBC Continental Americas light middleweight champion, in his upcoming bout which will take place on September 15, 2012.
According to the recent news published in a reputable news paper, Saul, 21, who recently defended his title quite impressively against Shane Mosley on May 5, 2012, is in search of a challenger who can give him a tough fight but unfortunately the name mentioned
in the tiding is James Kirkland.
At the moment, No confirmation of this fact has been made by Golden Boy Promotions, promoter Saul Alvarez, whereas the critics have already started to bash the Kirkland idea.
As per the critics, the Mexican Saul, also known as ‘Canelo or Cinnamon’, has proved that he is a quality pugilist and can beat even the best men in the division. Despite this fact, Alvarez is being put up against a man who recently collected a controversial
win over Carlos Molina.
Saul, who has an undefeated win streak in a huge 41 bouts, is being eyeballed by names such as Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto and others. In addition, he can easily get a bout settled with anyone of the above since he has shocked
and rattled the whole light middleweight division for the past few years.
But due to some reason, Golden Boy staff believes that they will take their man move up gradually and slowly towards the title shot and not in haste. James, 28, has been in a total 32 bouts and emerged victorious in 31.
He has collected 27 of his wins by knockout as compared to Saul’s 29 and proudly resides at the World Boxing Organisation’s fifth rank. The bout if finalised will be an epic one since Saul is a top-notch brawler who has been defending his WBC light middleweight
gold successfully.
Saul grabbed the vacant title from Matthew Hatton and since then has defended it against Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, and Shane Mosley. James, on the other hand, collected a first round knockout loss to Nobuhiro Ishida and since then is on
a four-bout win streak.
Interestingly he has fought men who have almost half the experience then Saul, the reason why everyone is hypothecating the bout to be a big test for James Kirkland.
The date and other details of the pay-per-view and the rest of the fight card will be announced in the upcoming days.
