Saul Alvarez scheduled to defend WBC light middleweight gold against Shane Mosley – Boxing news
Saul Alvarez, the current WBC light middleweight champion, is scheduled to take on the number one contender, Shane Mosley, in an epic 12-round skirmish which will take place on May 5, 2012.
The bout will co-headline the special pay-per-view put forth by Golden Boy Promotions and will witness Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto clash as the main event. The ring will be staged at MGM Grand Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Saul and Shane recently participated in the pre-bout press conference organised by Golden Boy Promotions at Mexico City in front of 15,000 boxing fanatics. Saul, the current champion, is ranked number two in the World Boxing Organisation’s rankings.
The 21-year-old prospect has in a very small age gathered a hefty experience in his resume. The Mexican pugilist has been in a total 40 bouts and came out victorious in 39. It must be noted that Alvarez has never lost a bout and is still considered invincible.
The only one bout he was not able to win was against Jorge Juarez in 2006 which ended in a draw.
Widely known as the Canelo, Saul was pretty confident at his upcoming engagement and said, “It will be a great fight and I hope to be the winner that night and seek out the best fights.”
Saul grabbed his WBC title from Matthew Hatton and since then has defended his gold authoritatively, three times against Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, and Kermit Cintron. The young Mexican proud boats many emphatic wins over huge names such as Jose Miguel
Cotto, Lanardo Tyner, Carlos Leonardo Herrera and others.
Alvarez’s Saturday night HBO competitor, Shane, is also a prolific pugilist who has proudly won three world titles in three different divisions. Shane seriously outweighs Saul by his experience.
The 40-year-old veteran has been in a total 55 bouts and came out victorious in 46. He has lost just seven bouts and none of them by knockout. The American number five and world number six Mosley, has won a huge 39 bouts by knockout.
Shane during the press conference predicted, “It’ll be a tactical and explosive fight.” Mosley, infamous as the ‘Sugar’, collided with Manny Pacquiao recently in a 12-round skirmish. The bout was for the WBO welterweight gold and Shane, unfortunately, lost
it via unanimous decision.
Oscar De La Hoya, owner Golden Boy Promotion revealed, “It will be a heck of a fight and the winner of Mayweather-Cotto could be facing the winner of Mosley-Alvarez in the near future. There are great things in store for Canelo Alvarez and this will be a
great test that the boxing world wants to see and it’s time for him to face greater challenges.”
The bout will definitely be a classic and the whole special edition will startle the world since both men are impressive and ace pugilists in the light middleweight division.
