Saul Alvarez successfully defends WBC title against Ryan Rhodes – Boxing news
The undefeated Mexican professional boxer, Saul Alvarez won a 12th round technical knockout decision fighting against the British Middleweight professional Boxer, Ryan Rhodes to win the WBC Light Middleweight title on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at
the VFG Arena in Jalisco, Mexico.
In the first round, Alvarez looked moving back but Rhodes was trying to come forward to him throwing jabs directly to Alvarez’s body. Alvarez landed a left and right hand combination for Rhodes towards the end of the 1st round. As a result, the
first round was claimed by Alvarez as 10-9.
Alvarez kept the same winning pace until the end to take that bout away from Rhodes. The 34-year-old, Rhodes went down to the floor in the 4th round. The only round which went in favour of Rhodes was the 9th round. Alvarez claimed all
the other eleven rounds leading to his victory.
It was just 48 seconds in the 12th round when the referee Hector Afu intervened to halt the fight. Max DeLuca, Yuji Fukuchi and David Sutherland were performing their duties as the judges and Jose Sulaiman as the supervisor to the WBC Light Middleweight
Championship.      
The Orthodox stance, Alvarez added one more victory to his undefeated boxing record. He has now won 36 of his 37 competitive bouts with 26 knockout victories. He has no losses and has one draw in his professional boxing career.
Ryan ‘Spice Boy’ Rhodes after getting defeated by Alvarez has fallen one down in his professional boxing record. The Southpaw stance, Rhodes has won 45 out of his 49 bouts including 31 wins by way of a knockout. He has lost four fights while has no draw
in his career.
The 20-year-old, Saul Alvarez made the first successful defence of his WBC Light Middleweight title, which he claimed after winning unanimous points decision over Matthew Hatton on March 5, 2011 at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California.
