Saul Alvarez vs. Shane Mosley co-featured bout added to Cotto-Mayweather – Boxing news
If Oscar De La Hoya’s recent Tweet is to believed then we can believe there is a May 5 bout between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
This will be the WBC Jr. Middleweight champion Alvarez’s fourth title defence bout.
Alvarez won his last fight over Kermit Cintron November last year in Mexico City through a fifth round knockout. On the other hand, Shane Mosley’s last fight saw him losing to Manny Pacquiao last year in May, a bout that shook the foundations for Mosley
since Pacquiao came on way harder than he thought.
Mosley is 40 whereas Alvarez is just 21. Therefore, the bout is not a very well balanced one. In fact, after Mosley’s last performance, many thought of him as a dead horse but he claimed he still has a lot in him to exhibit.
Last year, when the bout between Mosley and Pacquiao was decided, the boxing world saw a rage coming in from fans claiming that it is a complete mismatch. Similarly, even this time most boxing fans think that the bout Alvarez and Mosley is not a balanced
one, which will make it quite uninteresting. It is more like Mosley is in his suicidal spring where he just wants to face young and aggressive fighters to surrender.
However, Mosley still is a surprising fellow who can come in with more than anyone could imagine. He was seen defeating Antonio Margarito with a ninth round KO in January 2009, which was quite a shock, since Margarito was on his best ride back then.
As for now, even though this bout is scheduled to be on the undercard of one of the biggest boxing nights of 2012, it will hardly be a crowd attracter. Nobody wants to see Mosley getting beat badly once again.
Alvarez is an aggressive yet technical fighter who will not be intimidated by Mosley and will unleash his fury over him. Mosley, on the other hand, will wait for the right time to attack, which most likely will not happen.
