Saul “Canelo” Alvarez ready to turn on the heat with a bicentennial knockout
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez wants to chart territory even Magellan can’t attest to.
The WBC silver junior middleweight champion thinks he stands a good chance to knock out Argentina’s Carlos Baldomir, who he’ll take the fight to on the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora undercard.  Baldomir has
never been knocked out.  The bout is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and is available on pay-per-view.
Alvarez said that he will fight in honour of the bicentennial of Mexico and for the millions of Mexicans that will be celebrating.
What better way to celebrate a bicentennial than with a knockout?
Alvarez also acknowledged that he’ll have to mix it up with the 39-year old veteran Baldomir, who will be game by virtue of his experience against stars like Floyd Mayweather, Zab Judah, and Joshua Clottey.
Alvarez said: “"Baldomir has no power in his fists, but he has always been a tough opponent. He throws a lot of punches, he holds a lot, but I know that I can knock him out because I have faster hands,
my punches are strong and when I throw them they are accurate.”
“Canelo” is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, and is recognized as being the prospective Mexican heir in a post Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera-Oscar de la Hoya era.  Alvarez (33-0, 25 KOs), only 20,
is already a superstar in Mexico who routinely draws huge crowds for his fights.
Against Baldomir he is the favourite.  As Alvarez acknowledges, Baldomir has little power, and must rely on his veteran ringmanship to succeed.  But in recent years even that has fallen by the wayside
for Baldomir.  In practice this fight should be a walk in the park for Alvarez, but it will signal the next step on paper, as Baldomir is a seasoned fighter who has battled the greats.
