Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds’ 6-foot-4 defenseman Nurse vows to make life miserable for forwards
Canadian professional ice hockey player Darnell Nurse, who plays as a defenseman for Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), wants to give a tough time to all the forwards of the game and believes that his huge physique and built
will help him in doing so.
The 17-year-old player is 6-foot-4 and 189 pounds and is already very huge compared to other players of his age. A physique and a strong built is very important for a defenseman to stop the forwards against him and having got it, the teenagers plans are
very much on the target.
Talking to NHL.com, the Hamilton, Ontario native made it clear that as expected from him, he wants to be someone that the wingers are afraid of and he would enjoy making the life difficult for them, as he said,
"At 6-foot-4 and 189 pounds, I have to use every pound that I have … it's kind of expected being this size. You have to be someone who is hard to play against, and that's something I enjoy."
Nurse is looking to become someone that will make his opponents regret playing against him when they will face him, as he added,
"When a player skates down his wing, looks up and sees me, I want them to say, 'Oh God, I have to go against him again.'"
The defenseman is already earning some respect and praise from the scouts who are watching him and having a reputation that any junior player would love to have. Chris Edwards of NHL Central Scouting only had good words to say about him and appreciated the
fact that Nurse does not make many mistakes and remains consistent and powerful most of the times. Edwards said while talking to NHL.com,
"He's the kind of guy who is not going to make a lot of mistakes. He's steady and solid, and you can trust him out there."
In his first season with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, he had not impressed much by scoring 1 goal and 9 assists, 10 total points in 53 games but scored 4 goals, 13 assists for a total of 17 points in 26 games.
