A solid all-round effort from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RA-Jadeja-c2238 proved to be Saurashtra’s greatest strength, as the team went on to secure a spectacular 270-run win over Bengal, in their Group A match during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association
Stadium in Rajkot, from December 8 to 11.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shami-Ahmed-c2496 (18-2-66-2), kept them on a tight leash. Most of the batsmen failed to contribute much, and three batsmen in total
were dismissed on duck, but Jadeja top-scored for the team with 70, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shitanshu-Kotak-c2510 (40) chipped in with a decent performance. Their outings formed the crux of their team’s innings, and Saurashtra worked their way up to 209 before they were all out.
While the total was an average one, Player of the Match Jadeja (25-7-48-4) ensured that Bengal did not get anywhere near Saurashtra’s total, and was aided in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890 (who contributed 55 before he retired hurt)
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arindam-Das-c1077 (20) were the only batsmen who succeeded in progressing into double digits. The rest were unable to put up a fight, and four batsmen failed to score any runs at all. Within 62 overs, Bengal were all out at a disappointing first innings score
of 112.
Saurashtra all but secured their victory during their second innings, working their way up to a solid total, despite the efforts of Saxena (36-6-133-6), who once again proved the danger-man. The innings hinged on Sheldon Jackson’s (118*) unbeaten century,
while Jadeja (68) and Aarpit Vasavada (59) featured as supporting acts. Together, they got the team up to a total of 333 after which they declared, setting Bengal a 431-run target.
Jadeja (24-8-50-4) and Doshi (12.4-3-58-3) then proceeded to team up and secure Saurashtra’s victory. The only batsmen who managed to put up a fight were http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Laxmi-Shukla-c1829 (35), while the rest failed to tackle Saurashtra’s bowling attack.
On the final day of play, Bengal eventually collapsed, all out, at 160, with Saurashtra going on to secure a comfortable 270-run win.
