http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 59/0 (23.0 ov) - Punjab trail by 418 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
Punjab, after having faced 23 overs in their first innings against Saurashtra, trail by 418 runs with ten wickets in reply to their opponents’ 477 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
With openers Jiwanjot Singh and R http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mavi-Inder-Singh-c75392 still standing, the batting side looks in a confident position.
Earlier, on Thursday, Saurashtra resumed their innings from their overnight score of 274 for five. It was imperative for Punjab to bowl them out in order to prevent them from piling a massive score.
However, SP Jackson and KR Makvana marched their side to domination as they took the score to 335 by smacking the bowlers all around the park without remorse. This early onslaught put the bowlers on the back foot right from the get go.
Finally, the partnership was broken by S Kaul, who dismissed Jackson for 107. With the top batsman decommissioned, this was the time for Punjab to strike back and grab a few more wickets to turn the game around.
However, KR Makvana and VH Joshi denied their opponents any glory, as they forged a daunting partnership, belting the score to 426. The batsmen put their side in a comfortable position from where losing seemed like a distant probability.
Meanwhile, for Punjab letting the two batsmen get carried away was a disaster as they now knew that their batsmen would have to give a big performance once they come in the middle.
After having bolstered 85 runs, it was time for Makvana to find his way back to the pavilion as he was removed by Ladda.
Then with 444 on the board, the batting side suffered the demise of another wicket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Dalrymple-c1658 Unadkat crumbling after bolstering only nine runs.
DA Jadeja was the next batsman to find his way off the field as he scored 17 runs before losing his wicket to Ladda.
Later, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshi-c69506 unbeaten on 55, Saurashtra were bowled-out after posting a massive score on the board.
From Punjab, S Kaul and S Ladda were the ace performers with three wickets each.
