Saurav Ganguly willing to coach India
Sourav Ganguly is a man who brought the killer instinct in the Indian team. Till date, 'dada' as he is popularly known as, is still hailed as the most successful skipper for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, bagging the most wins for the country in Test match cricket. After going
into oblivion for a couple of years, the man has opined that he is now ready to coach the Indian cricket team.
The 38-year-old Ganguly, while responding to a question whether he would like to coach the side he served for almost 17 years, claimed that he does not have any such plans in the near future. However, Ganguly did add that he would definitely love to coach
India because it would be a very special feeling for him.
The aggressive Indian skipper is ascribed with having raised the careers of many Indian cricketers who played under him. While revealing his ambition to coach the Indian cricket team, Ganguly was sure that if ever given the opportunity, he would never like
to follow the footsteps of bête noire Greg Chappell, the former Indian coach who is alleged to be responsible for giving him the chop from India’s captaincy role. The left-handed Ganguly is one of the most successful Test captains that the Indian team has
ever seen. He led the Men in blue in 49 test matches, home and way, and won 21 out of those. His stint as India’s Test captain came to an end during Greg Chappell’s tenure as coach of the Indian team. Chappell had coached Indian cricket team for two years,
from 2005 to 2007.
Most of the cricketers become commentators or sports writers after leaving the field to maintain their association with the game but Ganguly does not want to take the easy route. He said that talking and writing are much easier jobs in sports but coaching
a side is quite a tough assignment. He said that a player can always influence a match by plundering runs or picking up wickets but a coach always worked from the sidelines. Ganguly said that despite the tough requirements, he would love to do it because coaching
would be a huge honour for him to join the Indian cricket in any capacity.
When asked what strategy he would love to follow to make his coaching even successful, if given the opportunity, Ganguly opined that he would keep his tongue firmly in check and would remain friendly with the media and honest with the players. He said that
he would never use press as a tool to impose his ideas on the team rather he would always work with the players as they give the result in the end.
Ganguly further revealed that he would never like to follow the footsteps of Greg Chappell and would rather pursue Gary Kirsten’s strategies. Narrating the qualities of a successful coach, Ganguly said that a successful coach is the one who gets the confidence
of his players and the team while remaining behind the scenes. He further added that it has always been the case that the boss of the team is the captain and only he (captain) runs the team.
Sourav Ganguly was a prolific ODI batsman and has compiled over 11,000 one-day runs from 311 ODIs including 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries. From 113 Test match appearances, Ganguly has logged 7,212 runs at an average of 42.17 with 16 hundreds and 35
fifties and a highest of 239. Ganguly was an occasional bowler as well and has taken 100 ODI and 32 Test wickets as well.
After retirement from international cricket, Ganguly joined domestic cricket to prove his critics wrong. He frankly admitted that coming back to domestic circuit after being the Indian captain was really hard but at the same time, he said that the experiences
have made him a better person.
