Sava Turcanu excels in Men’s 400m freestyle heats – 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals
Sava Turcanu of Hickory-NC excelled his performance in the Men’s 400m freestyle on day two of the 2011 Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Nationals taking place at the Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Centre, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Turcanu surfaced as the fastest swimmer to enter into the final rounds, by finishing first in a time of 4 minutes and 04.53 seconds. He was followed by Sean Monahan of Me Lyons-OH, who remained 1.19 seconds behind Turcanu and entered the final as the second
finest swimmer in a time of 4 minutes and 05.72 seconds. Monahan’s time was 0.30 seconds faster than his following swimmer, Justin Mehl of Middle Tyger-SC, who submitted a time of 4 minutes and 06.02 seconds.
Turcanu’s time was 4.34 seconds above the national record of 3 minutes and 59.19 seconds, set by A. Messner of Ann Arbor.
The fourth fastest spot of the swim was secured by Bradley Wachenfeld of Somersethills-NJ, who was just 0.01 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and qualified in a time of 4 minutes and 06.03 seconds. Dylan Ludwick of Tri-Hampton-PA was the fifth finest
swimmer of the meet, as he stayed 0.42 seconds behind and reported in a time of 4 minutes and 06.45 seconds.
Liam McKane of Sarasota-Fl claimed the sixth qualification spot of the event, by producing a time of 4 minutes and 08.79 seconds. For the seventh qualification spot, Shane McKenzie of Tri-Hampton remained evident, as he qualified in a time of 4 minutes and
09.74 seconds. He was followed by Ryan McRae of Suncoast-FL and Matthew Montague of Me Lyons-OH, who occupied the eighth and ninth fastest spots to enter the final, with timings of 4:09.83 and 4:11.97 minutes, respectively. Robert Breen of North Shore-MA was
the final swimmer to qualify, as he clocked a tenth fastest time of 4 minutes and 12.07 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of qualifying rounds of all swimming events, while these swimmers will race with each other in the final round to achieve a podium finish.
