Sava Turcanu secures Men’s 400m IM gold: Day four – YMCA National Championship
Sava Turcanu of Hickory-NC secured gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day four of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Thursday, July 26.
Turcanu demonstrated his unbelievable efforts in the eight-lap IM discipline and appeared on the finishing blockade for gold medal. With his relentless efforts in the initial half of the race, he gained a prominent lead over his challengers and made his
way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
The 17-year-old Turcanu enjoyed a three-body length lead over his strongest challenger and made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 29.19 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained almost three seconds ahead of Christopher DePietro of Lancaster-OH, who surfaced on the finishing end as second position holder by producing a time of 4 minutes and 32.01 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Nate Carr of Huntington-WV, who was 1.06 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade for bronze medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 33.07 seconds.
Carr was chased by Matthew Moen of Wilton-CT, who remained 1.38 seconds behind and secured fourth position of the event with the timing of 4 minutes and 34.45 seconds.
The 17-year-old Moen was trailed by Alex Keller of Fayette-IL, who stayed three body lengths behind and ended fifth in the race with the timing of 4 minutes and 37.99 seconds.
Keller was chased by Luke Lechner of W.North Carolina, who suffered a loss of 0.49 seconds and ended sixth in the race with an effort of 4 minutes and 38.48 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Sean Higgins of Wilton-CT, who remained 0.23 seconds apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 38.71 seconds.
Higgins was followed by his team-member, Maxwell Dolan, who was 0.03 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 38.74 seconds for eighth position.
Turcanu was overjoyed with his scintillating form in the discipline and received gold medal of the 400m IM at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
