I'm considering getting a new target rifle and I'm stuck between the Savage 10FP and the Remington SPS Tacticool, both in .308 WIN. Anyone have suggestions or experience w/ these 2 models?

  1. I used to have a Savage 10 F&P in .308.  It was a sweet rifle, very fun to shoot from a bench position.  The best part of the rifle was the Accutrigger, which has a great feel to it, in my opinion.  I had a few issues with mil-surp ammunition that would lock up the bolt, nothing major.  Accuracy was excellent.

Get a decent recoil pad for it, too.  The factory stock is a little uncomfortable.  My only complaint about the rifle is the bolt seems to have a longer than necessary "throw" to operate.  A little bit awkward in some positions.  I think the Tikka T3's are a better rifle for the money, but I wouldn't hesitate to get another Savage if I found one used.

  2. I have had many 700s. I have stipped an an old one to build a precision rifle.

The Savage and the Remington are both great guns that shoot sub MOA. I think that if you are certain you will never sell the gun, I would buy the savage. I'm not sure, but last I checked they were less money.

If you don't know if you will sell, I would buy the Remington. Due to its popularity, Remington does hold its value if you sell it.

Remenber to properly break in the barrel, and use good ammo. I don't think either is a bad choice, but Remington has been in my safe for hunting birds, shooting trap and skeet, shooting targets at 500 meters, and home defense.

Its all the company you will ever need.

  3. I have a 700 sps in .270 and i love it! The 700 is the same rifle the military uses for sniper. very high quality, i dont think you could go wrong with it.

dont know much about the savage 10fp.
