Savana Bert ready to open account in KAB Maiden Derby - 2nd Semi-final at Henlow
By performing brilliantly in the KAB Maiden Derby heats, the black dog has given the impression that he is ready to get off the mark. Thursday’s second semi-final is an ideal chance for the juvenile to hold the crown.
The black dog showed a lot of class last time. Despite getting bumped twice in the beginning, the youngster ran well to earn a place in this round. An early mess made things very tough, but he marvellously secured the second place by making a strong finish.
The Derrick Atkins-trained has loads of potential, and could show a winning act. The 2-year-old has run all his races well, but in defeat. So, only an element of luck is required to make his presence felt.
Other contestants are: Conall, El Miller, Young Olympian, Ferndale Rock, and Jolly Bullseye. The successful hound will get a prize of 150 pounds, but more importantly a place in the grand finale. The officials will start the 460 metres contest at 20:26 GMT.
Conall caught the eye in defeat in both outings here. On his Henlow debut, the black dog seized the second place. The S. Fletcher-trained was seen grabbing the runner-up spot in good style on his first outing at the open level. He is enjoying good odds,
and looks in a fine position to make impression. The draw is a concern though.
Jolly Bullseye shaped with plenty of promise on debut in this class. Despite getting bumped on a couple of occasions, the black dog managed to finish second last time around. Ferndale Rock can set the target for others to aim. But to do, the blue dog needs
to run like a demon.
Young Olympian was an impressive winner last time, and deserves respect on that performance. However, P. Young’s trainee needs to dig really deep in order to thrive in this company.
El Miller has not yet fully lived up to the expectations, and we don’t see him doing this today. The black dog could only claim the third place despite having a clear passage last time. We wish the best of luck to all the contestants.
