Savannah King acquires Women’s 800m freestyle gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Savannah King of VAND acquired the title of Women’s 800m freestyle on day five of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Saturday, March 31.
King displayed her immaculate efforts in distant freestyle event and smothered hopes of her opponents, who were eying the title of 800m event, by finishing her swim in first place.
She faced no trouble in proving her eligibility for gold medal of the event as she clocked an effort of 8 minutes and 30.79 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Alexa Komarnycky of IS, who remained nearly three seconds slower from her former finisher and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 33.32 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed remarkable performance of Brittany MacLean of ESWIM, who sprinted her way towards the finishing wall as third position holder by posting a time of 8 minutes and 33.70 seconds.
She was followed by Bridget Coley of HAC, who stayed nearly ten seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 43.47 seconds for fourth position.
The fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Heather Maitland of TSC, who remained nearly five seconds behind Coley and completed her race with an effort of 8 minutes and 48.21 seconds.
Sherry Liu of HYACK remained 1.30 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher as she claimed sixth position of the 800m discipline by posting a time of 8 minutes and 49.51 seconds.
The seventh position of the discipline was earned by Zsofia Balazs of TSC, who remained almost one second slower from Liu and hit the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 50.49 seconds.
Last spot of the discipline was secured by Tyra Rooney of CASC, who remained almost four seconds slower and posted 8 minutes and 54.39 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events whereas the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their notable swims at the prize ceremony of the championship.
