Save Video on computer?

I have a JVC camcorder and need to edit videos on Windows Movie Maker for a project. The problem is that my computer won't pick up that the camcorder is plugged in with the USB plug. What to I do to save the video content on my camcorder to my computer?

  1. If it is a miniDV tape based camcorder and you are using USB to transfer the video, that's not going to work. You need to use the firewire400 (IEEE1304a, i.Link - all the same thing) port on your computer with a firewire cable connected to the DV port of the camcorder - USB won't work. If you don't have a firewire port on your computer, it is generally easy to add one.

    If it is a hard drive or flash memory camcorder, you need to get current drivers.

    If it is a DVD camcorder, don't use the camcorder for transfer - put the miniDVD in the DVD port in your computer and rip the video with Handbrake
