Save money on Gas by Slowing down??????

I have heard too many answes about slowing down to save money on gas, cars give you less mileage per gallon in city than high way, I have MDX Acura, it gives me 18 miles in City and 22 Highway, How can slowing down will save me money then since we drive slow in city and fast on

highway? do they mean slow down on highway?

  1. the reason you use more gas in town is bc the stop and go at every light or stop sign and the reason they say to go slower on the highway is to lower the revolutions per minute that is what will save gas

    Driving in the city, start stop start stop, is very bad for fuel economy.  That's why city mileage isn't very good.

    The best economy happens when you can be in continuous cruise, like on the freeway.   What speed is best, then?  It varies a little, but most cars will get their best speed around 45-55 mph (give or take).  Slower and the car isn't efficient, faster and aerodynamic drag increases a lot, and you end up spending a lot of fuel to push air out of the way.

    You just have to experiment.

  5. yes... means on highway. closest to 55 is best. most people drive 70 to 80 on highway here.
