ok lets say the closer comes in and his team is up by six (which would mean he is not in a save situation)...well the bases get loaded and the batter hits a grandslam and they r now up by 2...he eventually gets outta the inning, so does tht count as a save? if u r not in a save situation and then it becomes a save situation cuz of ur pitching, is tht a save?

  1. i think so

  2. Not a chance; the save situation must exist when the pitcher enters the game for him to qualify.  A subsequent pitcher may qualify, but not the one who allowed the game to get that close.

  3. it does not become a save situation. the closer is charged with 4 runs and does not factor into any decision. in this case he is basically just another reliever to help finish the game.

however, if after loading the bases/giving up the grand slam the manager changes pitchers, the new pitcher would earn the save and the "closer" would be given a hold.

  4. yea wen if the tying runs are on base or they wen they have a 3 run lead den yea it wud be a save

  5. most managers probably wouldn't have brought their closer in to that situation (6 run lead), unless he needed the work. I'm pretty sure it becomes a save though..

  6. no because the runners on base would be the pitcher before the closers runs.
