okay! national rail services to london...

is it still correct that you can use saver return tickets on virgin trains services at PEAK times if the ticket is accompanied with a valid railcard (i.e. young persons, senior, etc)?

Every time I go to London Euston station all the peak time services state that saver restrictions reply on the service, however these restrictions don't count if the traveller has a valid railcard.

Just tried to book via thetrainline.com for tickets from Coventry to London at a peak time... whereas I was expecting the usual £23.10 price, or £33.10 with a travelcard, I was presented with a £67 ticket and a £113.10 ticket with a railcard.

Ripoff.

Should I just go to the station tomorrow and buy a saver return for £23 and jump on the peak train with my railcard anyway?

  1. Doesn't matter if you have a railcard or not, you can't travel peak time on a saver ticket

  2. I would speak to the station staff, if they can't do it then they can expain why...

Another alternative is to as uk.railway on usenet (google groups provide a web interface for it)
