  1. Your refrigrator uses more electricity than anything else, so dont leave door open too long.

Non electronic appliances such as toasters, will not use electricity unless its being used. Others, like your microwave will use up energy even when not being used.

Some people will turn on oven, just to toast some bread...what a waste.

Hot water heater also uses alot of energy, and managing it better could save money. Just think, if it takes 15 seconds of water running before the hot comes out, then when you turn off that water, there will be 15 seconds of heated water in the water lines that will never be used.

  2. unplug all phone and comp. chargers they all leak electricity even when not charging anything ,Coffey pot,DVD,VCR,cable box.Don't leave TV on stand by est.All the heat that come out of these thinks is your electric waste. GOOD LUCK

  3. The biggest electricity drain is appliances like the fridge, washer and dryer. Make sure your fridge is an EnergyStar rated model, which are designed to be efficient. Ditto with your washer and dryer. I wash all of my wash in cold, which saves electricity due to the water heater not having to heat water. I wash at night, because nighttime is less of a drain on the grid than day use and it's less expensive. Being that it's summer now, I asked my fiance to hang out a clothesline so I could hang clothes to dry as opposed to using the dryer. We saved $30 on our bill last month, just from not using the dryer (we have kids and do a lot of laundry)! Another thing is lights. This is a small drain, but it can add up. Use a timer and motion-sensors to control lights in your house. If no one is in a room, the lights will shut off.

Yes, if you unplug appliances, it will save electricity. Some items, such as computers, drain small amounts of electricity, even when not on. The solution to things like that is to plug into a strip that you can turn on and off.

  4. Use electric saving bulbs lol.............

  5. You have to be a good policeman when you're running air conditioning and heating too.  These are the big consumers of electrical power.  Proper insulation is a start and just making sure that the doors and windows to the the outside are closed.  Children will stand in front of the refrigerator for 5 minutes trying to decide what they want (not so good).  An electric fan or light does absolutely no good if you are not in the room with it. so shut if off when you leave.  Turn off the TV when you're not watching it.  Keep your showers reasonable and if you can hang laundry outdoors, that will eliminate using your clothes dryer (big consumer of power)

Electrical appliances like toasters, coffee makers and can openers won't make a difference.  Most appliances draw a very small amount of power if they have a digital clock in them.  Not enough to make a difference though.
